While the Las Vegas Arts District is famous for street murals and craft brews, the arrival of the Southern Nevada Art Museum (SNAM) in March 2026 has given the neighborhood a high-culture anchor. Housed in a 10,000-square-foot space at 1029 S. Main St., this is the city’s first stand-alone fine-art museum, a permanent sanctuary for “Old World” masterpieces in the heart of the 18b.
From Burlesque to the Brushstroke
The museum’s footprint is a nod to the area’s history, repurposing the former Burlesque Hall of Fame and JRNY Gallery buildings. The structures are unified by a tropical, Hawaiian Tiki-themed courtyard, creating a transition between the desert heat and the climate-controlled galleries. Founder Chris Davin envisioned a space where art is accessible; the venue doubles as an event hub for artist receptions and silent discos.
Coming later this spring, the experience will expand with the debut of The Silent Muse, an in-house lounge designed for guests to reflect on the collection with a craft cocktail in hand.
The Collection: 500 Originals, No Price Tags
Unlike the surrounding commercial galleries, SNAM is a non-profit institution focused solely on viewing and education. The permanent collection features over 500 works by 88 artists, spanning from the 15th century to modern contemporary.
Current Highlights:
- The Masters: Original clay pottery by Pablo Picasso and etchings by Rembrandt, Goya, and Renoir.
- Surrealist Icons: Salvador Dalí’s rare “Stairway to Heaven” woodblock series, illustrating Dante’s Divine Comedy.
- Vegas Visionaries: Works by local stars like Ziggy, Michael Godard, and Kat Tatz hang alongside ancient gold-leaf manuscript leaflets.
Art with an Inclusive Mission
SNAM is more than a gallery; it’s a platform for the community. The museum features a dedicated Stonewall Gallery honoring LGBTQ history, with rotating monthly installations. Revenue from the museum supports local scholarships and artist-in-residence programs, ensuring the next generation of Las Vegas creators has a seat at the table.
